Working alongside trade operatives, this is an excellent opportunity for a semi-skilled labourer to join the prestigious and historic Roxburghe Estate.

The Role

The semi-skilled Labourer will be part of the Works Department and report to the Clerk of Works.

Working alongside trade operatives, this is an excellent opportunity for a semi-skilled labourer to join the prestigious and historic Roxburghe Estate. You will provide support to the works department in their day-to-day maintenance activities around the Estate and where appropriate, you will work on your own to carry out basic repair tasks, suited to your skillset.

Purpose of the Role

  • We are seeking to expand our in-house trades team by recruiting an enthusiastic semi-skilled labourer.
  • As part of our in-house trades team, you will undertake work to support and assist our team of trades in their day-to-day repair and improvement work.
  • At times you will work alone, or with a colleague, to undertake a variety of tasks around the Estate.
  • Depending on your interests and drive, we envisage the role will allow you to develop new skills and over time become an integral part of our team working across the entire Estate.

What’s involved

As a site-based operative, you will be adaptable and will work in a variety of situations to assist our in-house team of trades and other departments across the wider Estate. You will work across our entire built environment which includes our heritage assets such as Floors Castle, our grounds, farms and private rented properties.

The work is without doubt varied; you may find yourself helping our joiners one day, perhaps digging a drainage trench the next and then maybe helping the masons carry out repairs to Floors Castle itself.

Sometimes it’s just a bit random though! Over and above everything else, and despite their exceptional craft skills, the Works Team are an adaptable team who respond to the challenge at hand. Applicants must have a similar approach and be willing to muck in and lend a hand wherever needed.

The Works Team are a very highly skilled group of craftsmen, working alongside which will provide you the opportunity to hone your existing skills and learn new ones.

Hours of work

Flexibility is important, but a base working week would be 39 hours comprising
Mon to Thursday 08:00-16:30 and Friday 08:00-15.30.

What do you need to be successful? 

To apply you should have:

Demonstrable relevant work experience in a semi-skilled labourer position including experience working with a range of different trade disciplines. The ability to undertake basic builder, concrete and groundwork related tasks is a distinct advantage.

You will be working as part of a team, so strong interpersonal skills and good communication are a must.

You should be comfortable working at height and preferably have undergone training in work at height, use of PASMA tower scaffolds and MEWPS.

The ideal candidate will also be qualified and have experience operating plant such as 360 excavators.
