July in the Garden 2026
July in the Garden 2026
We are delighted to have been shortlisted as a contender for this year’s RHS Partner Garden of the Year competition, for the third year running!
We are doing our very best to bring home the award to the gardens this year so please do vote for us if you have enjoyed your visits.
The theme this year is “Bringing Nature to Life” and it’s all about celebrating nature, from planting schemes bursting with seasonal colour to clever projects that support local wildlife.
If your visit to Floors Walled Gardens has inspired you to invite more wildlife into your garden then @rhshome (Facebook) or @the_rhs (Instagram) would love to hear about it as would we @floorscastle or @myyearat_floors.
We are also partnering with the National Sweet Pea Society (www.sweetpeas.org.uk) who have given us lots of information about growing, choosing and enjoying these gorgeous plants. Our sweet peas are in flower now and they smell wonderful. Information leaflets are at the Gardens Kiosk and we are selling bunches of 10 sweet peas (for only £2.50!). They last for ages and will scent a room, so do treat yourself. If we have sold out find a member of the garden team and we will happily cut some for you.
The Garden Team spend most of July weeding, deadheading and planning for the Autumn season. We start sowing our biennial seeds in July including Foxgloves, Wallflowers, Teasel and Honesty. We are busy planting out the final winter cabbages, succession sowing lettuces and carrots (July is the final month for sowing) and watching the blueberries and gooseberries carefully to make sure we get to them before the birds do.
The kitchen garden is being harvested on a regular basis with the Chef becoming very creative with Runner Bean and Pea recipes.
Our herbaceous borders hit their peak with the roses on chains flowering and creating a wave of pink flowers alongside the Summer Border which has suddenly decided it wants to take the glory away from the Spring Border. The Delphiniums are still blooming and the dahlias are putting on a huge amount of growth now.
In the Tapestry Garden the visitors are enjoying sitting on the benches or grass enjoying the peace and quiet. It’s a part of the garden many people overlook, but if you do spend time in there you can enjoy the birdsong and bees buzzing all around and appreciate the changing seasons and planting combinations as the year progresses. The roses are looking lovely this year and our cutting garden now has a seat for you to rest and enjoy the view.
Finally, our swallows have all returned and their chicks are fledging alongside the Grey Warblers, Thrushes, Blackbirds and Goldfinches which are all nesting in the garden this year and keeping the various aphids in check for us. As always, we are happy to answer any gardening questions you have and look forward to welcoming you to the gardens again or as a first-time visitor very soon.
Love the Garden Team x
