July’s Garden Update
Dancing Delphiniums!
The strange weather we have had so far this year has resulted in some wonderful results in the walled garden. Our delphinium border is blooming and looks better than ever – they have loved the rain! The roses are also blossoming and their display this year looks lovely.
Although the herbaceous borders were slow to start flowering, the Summer Border is beginning to show signs of life with the Hot Border close behind now!
The Kitchen Garden is the star of the show in July – with potatoes, beans, peas and lettuces all growing well. The Kohl Rabi has been devoured and the Florence Fennel is due to be harvested along with the Broad Beans.
Many visitors ask us what happens to the produce and rest assured it is all used – our Chef has first choice for his use in the Castle Kitchens and for our cafe meals, followed by the Apple Shed who sells to the public and sometimes lucky gardeners and staff get some surplus too!
The gardens always look their fullest and most romantic in July so we hope you get the chance to experience them this month.
Please come along and see us in the gardens and glasshouses – we are always happy to answer any questions and provide advice to everyone.
