We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to join our dynamic Works team! Encompassing a range of duties, the role would provide the successful applicant with diverse opportunities which would develop skills and enhance knowledge. The role is for 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate should have construction related knowledge and experience. The ability to work calmly under pressure, adapt and be responsive to ever-changing challenges and priorities would also contribute to success.

 

The Role

Supporting the Buildings Manager and the Clerk of Works, the Junior Surveyor will contribute to the effective and efficient management of the Estate’s reactive, planned, and cyclical maintenance activities and our property improvement programme.

 

Responsibilities and duties

1 – Repairs Management

To supervise work on a wide range of reactive repairs and maintenance activities across the Estate. This will incorporate fielding calls from tenants and employees, carrying out site surveys and coordinating and communicating tasks with contractors and our in-house trades team.

2 – Planned Preventative Maintenance and Cyclical Repairs

You will support and assist the Buildings Manager and Clerk of Works with our planned preventative maintenance and cyclical maintenance programmes. A key part of this includes undertaking record of condition surveys as we cycle through a period of updating our property records.

3 – Major Works

Combining your excellent organisation, communication, and IT skills, you will be involved with all aspects of our refurbishment and renovation projects across our diverse built environment. You will assist in taking projects, ranging in value from £30k-£500k, from initial concept drawings through to completion.

4 – Administration and Finance

You will assist in maintaining a range of records and drawings in relation to the work and responsibilities of the department and ensure the accuracy of these records for future referencing, cost control and monitoring purposes.

 

Qualifications and skills

Education Essential

  • Construction trade experience or educated to HNC or above in construction related subject

Experience Desirable

  • 1 year on site

Knowledge Essential

  • Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • An appreciation of traditional and modern methods of construction and materials

Skills Essential

  • Good IT skills with the ability to use MS Office and MS Excel, in particular
  • Good language and numerical skills
  • Ability to make clear and confident decisions, based on knowledge, skills, and experience
  • A full and valid UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Ability to use AutoCAD
